HEAD OF THE DEPARTMENT
Department of Freshman Engineering provides faculty with tools and methodological support regarding teaching and learning dynamics that proves a golden opportunity for teaching fraternity to explore themselves in the realm of innovation and develop professionally. ICT and smart board tools are adapted for effective teaching-presentation delivery covered with models, simulations and animation in order to uphold students’ conceptual understanding. Also faculty are encouraged to place students’ engagement at centre of their learning practices through various pedagogically rich activities like group discussions or demonstrations following thoughtful presentations by faculty provide students a platform that allows them to express their opinion and improve on their communication skills, and further expand their perception of the world around with shared knowledge and experiences. In addition, to achieve the goal of teacher-student collaboration and peer interaction among students for their sustainable development, multi and inter-disciplinary projects are actively proposed by the department.
The department has always placed technology, in many of its forms, in the centre of its educational practices be it science, medical, astronomy, fine arts, or language education. In fact, during the recent COVID 19 pandemic, the education sector prominently realised the importance of technology since teaching-learning mostly driven through online digital platforms either synchronous or asynchronous mode of learning.
A step ahead in well-being of teachers and their professional development, the department encourages fraternity to participate various online and offline workshops, continue their learning through online courses offered by MOOC, NEPTEL, etc. and organises professional development programmes many a times on the campus.
Students are taught everything right from fundamentals in core subjects of Mathematics, Computational Techniques, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Programming, Data Structures, Engineering Drawing, and Communicative English as well as Introductory Engineering Coursework. There are well-equipped and fully functional laboratories for Engineering Physics and Engineering Chemistry making the process of learning more interesting and experiential rather than just theoretical. Phonetics labs and Computer labs have also been set up so that each student has access to practice what has been taught in classrooms.
The Department of Freshman Engineering, established in the year 1999 is headed by Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, a Senior Professor who has an experience of teaching for over sixteen years, who is fully supported by a team of well qualified, highly dedicated faculty with an unparalleled level of expertise in their fields.
The Department of Freshman Engineering prepares young students to be the future professionals innovative and dynamic in their methods. They are provided with all the resources required to have a hands-on experience and dive into the next few years of their education with ease. In addition to a career-oriented approach, students are provided with ample opportunities to explore their creative side through various extracurricular activities for an all-round development.
Students are encouraged to participate in various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities throughout the year. CCA includes debate programs, essay writing competitions, elocutions, games etc. These activities are especially promoted to induce a sound mind in a sound body in our students, learn to work in teams and handle leadership roles. Students’ desire to express their creativity has not been overlooked by the department which is why extracurricular activities such as music, dance, drama, photography competitions, holding science exhibitions, art and craft programs, and endorsing environmental activities just to name a few.
