IGBC Indian Green Building Council (IGBC)

In 2001, the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) was established as part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). IGBC has begun student chapters in different agricultural and engineering colleges to seed the ideas of Green Building Principles in the minds of young people. When the Indian Green Building Council-Vardhaman Chapter was inaugurated on 19 June 2020, the long- cherished dream of opening an IGBC student chapter at Vardhaman College of Engineering was fulfilled. Dr. K. Mallikarjuna Babu, Director and CEO, Vardhaman College of Engineering, Dr. S. Sai Satyanarayana Reddy, Principal, Vardhaman College of Engineering, Dr. Mallikarjun Rao, Head of Department (Civil), Vardhaman College of Engineering, Mr. C. Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad Branch, and Mr. Sundeep V, IGBC Counsellor, inaugurated the ceremony by Digital Lighting.

All the dignitaries were introduced by Mr. J. Rohan Reddy, Assistant Professor, Vardhaman College of Engineering (Coordinator of IGBC Vardhaman Chapter) and gave a brief introduction to IGBC activities. He also listed the importance of the Indian Green Building Council and the Indian Industry Confederation. The significance of professional societies in the life of a student was shared by Dr. Mallikarjun Rao (Head of Department (Civil), Vardhaman College of Engineering). He proposed that students take an advanced approach to the production of creative thought. Mr. C. Shekar Reddy enlightened the students about the different possibilities that one would have after becoming an IGBC member. He also urged everyone to participate actively in the section in order to benefit from it. The following members were announced as members of the Executive Committee. Dr. K. Mallikarjuna Babu, Director and CEO, and Dr. S. Sai Satyanarayana Reddy (Principal, Vardhaman College of Engineering) congratulated Dr. Mallikarjuna Rao and his team on their progressive effort to build and wish them the best for more events in the IGBC Student Chapter.

After the inaugural function, a technical discussion on ‘GREEN BUILDING MOVEMENT IN INDIA’ was held. Mr. Sundeep V, advisor of the IGBC, was the speaker of the technical talk. Students were able to understand the Green building practices that make buildings that are sustainable and resource-efficient throughout their life-cycles, from siting to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and destruction.

i. Green Building Concepts. Design and Implementation

In the current ongoing semester, some of the UG and PG students of civil engineering department are undergoing the courses related to Green Buildings & Sustainability. The purpose of this extension lecture was to provide a common platform to students for extending their class room theoretical concepts to more research-oriented applications. Mrs. P Pratyusha is an enthusiastic, dedicated, tech-savvy and system- oriented Sustainable Engineer of Construction Project Management with a strategic vision of technology-driven construction through competency-based education & training for efficient project delivery & enhanced value creation. She is currently working with BIMgrafX based in Hyderabad.

All the participants were exposed to the detailed Philosophy and importance of Sustainability in construction industry. She has elaborated the discussion on various topics such as Sustainability & Green Buildings; Green Building industry scope in India; Different Green Building Rating Systems and Knowledge Gap Skills required in industry.

A total of 107 members attended the session. Presentations were made with audiovisual aided power point. Emphasis was given on right concepts, theory & practical approach in the field as can be seen from few selected photos of his session. Finally, an interactive session was conducted to encourage the participants clarifying their doubts.

Towards the completion of each topic the participants interacted with speakers regarding their doubts. The speaker has addressed all the doubts with great enthusiasm. At the end of session, the honorable speaker Mrs. P Pratyusha, were presented gratitude & thanks by Dr. G. Mallikarjuna Rao sir.
