Center of Excellence in VLSI Design

About the Stream:

Vardhaman College of Engineering  is well  equipped  with  Cadence  Design  Systems software from  Cadence which is  the  leading  EDA  and Intelligent System  Design provider.  It offers certification courses in the field of logic and physical design. This center enables the department to deliver projects from RTL to GDS-II and Full Custom Design based on real time ideas that can be implemented onto chip. Cadence Tool helps students build great projects that connect their innovative ideas. This software also offers various types of design and verification tasks which include:

VLSI Front End: VLSI front end includes designing and testing part.  It uses HDL languages to describe a design. It includes simulation, generation of net-list, static timing analysis etc.

VLSI Back End: VLSI back-end includes floor planning, place and route. It includes development and fabrication part which is too complex and time consuming process.

VLSI Design is an exciting area for Research or Product Development. VLSI Design group is a design team consisting of members with extensive design experience focusing mainly on the analysis, design, simulation, fabrication, integration and testing of advanced technology ICs and VLSI Design systems for an electronic circuit might consist of a CPU, ROM, RAM and other glue logic. VLSI lets IC designers add all of these into one chip using Cadence Tool.

Message from Head of the Stream:

The very exciting time for the semiconductor industry in India with the government having announced the “Make in India” program following announcements related to National Policy on Electronics (NPE) and several programs to promote the holistic development of the Electronic System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM) ecosystem. This  includes  encouraging   entrepreneurship,  investments   in   R&D,  manpower development, incentives for setting  up  semiconductor  FABs  and  related manufacturing, among others.  I  am  excited that  the journey  that  we  started  with the VLSI center over 8 years  ago  is  reaching  some very significant milestones. The center of excellence in VLSI Design aims at providing a major platform to the researchers working in the field of Integrated Circuits design for knowledge sharing and exhibition of theoretical and technological development in the general areas of VLSI design.

As the Head of VLSI Design Stream, I envision our Vardhaman Institute will offer a research environment that is both intimate and expansive, one in which faculty of Industry, Government and society. I congratulate all the members of VLSI Design group for their endeavor and wish them all success in this direction.

Research Projects:

  1. “Bibliometric study of paradigms to stimulating research through university-industry partnerships in India” by  Prof. S. Rajendar under DST(NSTMIS)  worth of 23,88,286 Rs is sanctioned on 8th Dec 2020 for duration of 2 years (On-Going).
  2. “Design and Development of a Low Cost Foot Therapy Device for Plantar Facilities and Other Foot Problems” by Dr. JVR Ravindra, Prof. Y. Pandu Rangaiah under DST(TIDE) worth of 57.1 Lakhs is sanctioned in 2017 (On-Going).
  3. “Design and Development  of Differential Power Analysis and Leakage Power Analysis resistant Cryptosystem” by Ms. C. Padmini, Dr. J.V.R.Ravindra  under DST (WOS-A) worth of 19.95 Lakhs  in 2016 (On-Going).
