Vardhaman College of Engineering, Shamshabad - 501 218, Hyderabad, and IBM jointly organised a panel discussion on ‘Meeting the Industry demand by Academia’ at the Vardhaman College of Engineering on Friday, 21st December 2012. The event was organized keeping in mind the critical issue around skills gap and the need for greater alignment with industry and business requirements. Experts from both the academic and industrial domains are often concerned about lack of compatibility between the course curriculum and the relevance in the business world- and an increased need for more practical exposure for the students to deliver better quality work.

There is definite scope for better alignment between academia and industry. Working towards this common goal, it is time to take some actionable steps towards understanding each other's expectations and working towards bridging the gap. Meeting the demands of the Industry by upcoming graduates are important challenges that we face today. The IBM Praviin is fulfilling the gap that exists between Industry and Curriculum by having such interactions and questionnaire sessions to enlight students to prepare as per industry requirements. Industry dynamics are changing very fast now days, as we see phenomenal growth in Technologies, with huge gap in courses and new things are not incorporated in the Academic Process, yet. There would be skill shortage in Big Data and Mobility during 2016. There are shortages in Data experts to fulfil the future industry demands. We should have the ability to respond to the changes of market dynamics and new technologies. Regular interaction between Students, faculties and industry experts are important to meet industry challenges. Students should identify and utilize the right source of accurate information, to better understand industry demands. Students should prepare according to the needs of the future Industry, based on predictive analysis and virtualizing industry trends.Students listened to current Industry trends, current requirements, future technologies like Big Data, Cloud computing, Mobility, etc. and abilities and attitudes an individual should have to succeed in their ambitions.

In order to identify concrete steps and then act on them to produce real results, a team of experts from the industry and the academia came together to deliberate on the topic. The various experts include Mr. BhanuPrakash Jimched, Practice Area Lead, IBM Global Business Services, IBM India, Mr. Mayank Jain, Tata Consultancy Services, Hyderabad, Dr. Prakash Goteti, Mahindra Satyam, Hyderabad, Mr. Churchill Dass Prince, Founder CEO, Sales Intellect Company, Chennai, Dr. A. Ramakrishna Prasad, Director UIIC, JNT University, Hyderabad.

The event was attended by faculty members and students from various colleges in Hyderabad. Through this panel discussion, Vardhaman College of Engineering would like to spread the message among the local academic circles so that the ideas generated are taken forward and implemented.
