Professional Societies

The college offers many opportunities to get involved in extracurricular activities. Within the department there are six student-run organizations which you can get involved in.


Indian Concrete Institute is one of the leading professional bodies in India, catering to the professional needs of individuals and organizations involved in Concrete. Being a non-profit Organization, it is dedicated to the cause of Disseminating Knowledge on Concrete, to Promote Concrete Technology and Construction and to address the Research Needs of Concrete. Started in the year 1982, with around 500 members from 5 regional centers.

ICI students’ Chapter has been established in VCE in 2018, with a life time membership.

The Indian National Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering was established in the year 1948, soon after the second International Conference on Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering held at Rotterdam. The Society was affiliated to the International Society in the same year and since then it has strived to fulfil and promote the objectives of the International Society. In December 1970, the name “Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS)” was adopted. The Society celebrated its Diamond Jubilee in the year 2008 and racing towards Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

IGS students’ chapter has been established in VCE in 2018, and has conducted number of events.

3. India Chapter of American Concrete Institute

ACI was established on 26th December 1979 by a few enthusiastic concrete technologists to work directly under the patronship of ACI USA for the ‘Development and Advancement of Good Practice of Concrete Technology’ in India.
Today all India membership of the Chapter consists of 2000 concrete professionals and organizations including consulting engineers, concrete practitioners, academicians, researchers, consultants, civil engineers, material scientist, constructors, students etc.

4.The Indian Green Building Council

The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) was formed in the year 2001. The vision of the council is, “To enable a sustainable built environment for all and facilitate India to be one of the global leaders in the sustainable built environment by 2025”.

The council offers a wide array of services which include developing new green building rating programmes, certification services and green building training programmes. The council also organizes Green Building Congress, its annual flagship event on green buildings.

The council is committee-based, member-driven and consensus-focused. All the stakeholders of construction industry comprising of architects, developers, product manufacturers, corporate, Government, academia and nodal agencies participate in the council activities through local chapters. The council also closely works with several State Governments, Central Government, World Green Building Council, bilateral multi-lateral agencies in promoting green building concepts in the country.
