About UGC

The University Grants Commission of India (UGC India) is a statutory body set up by the Government of India in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 under the Ministry of Education, and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education. 

             In order to ensure effective region-wise coverage throughout the country, the UGC has decentralised its operations by setting up six regional centres at Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Bhopal, Guwahati and Bangalore. The head office of the UGC is located at Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg in New Delhi, with two additional bureaus operating from 35, Feroze Shah Road and the South Campus of University of Delhi as well.

The main aim & role of UGC in higher education is to provide funds to universities and coordinate, determine & maintain the ethics in institutions of higher education. The commission upholds the interpretation among the universities, government, and the community.

The main functions of UGC are :

  1. Promoting and coordinating university education.
  2. Determining and maintaining standards of teaching, examination and research in universities.
  3. Framing regulations on minimum standards of education.
  4. Monitoring developments in the field of collegiate and university education; disbursing grants to the universities and colleges.
  5. Serving as a vital link between the Union and state governments and institutions of higher learning.
  6. Advising the Central and State governments on the measures necessary for improvement of university education

UGC Autonomous Status
UGC accorded extension of autonomous status to Vardhaman College of Engineering for a Period of Ten Years from the Academic Year 2021-2022 to 2030-2031 including ex-post-facto approval for the year 2020-2021. – Click here

Recognized under Section 2 (f) & 12 (B) of UGC Act, 1956 from 04-09-2012 onwards.

UGC CPE Status

UGC Accorded CPE Status to the college for a period of five years valid from 01-04-2016 to 31-03-2021
