Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell

Objectives

The SEDG Cell is committed to inculcate an inclusive educational environment by collecting data to identify student needs for targeted programs in inclusive training, entrepreneurial support, bridge learning and economic empowerment. The data will be stored securely to be accessed only by the authorized personnel to guarantee confidentiality and compliance with institutional ethics. This information is believed to facilitate the development of scholarships, mentorship opportunities and inclusion strategies. This would enable tailored support to empower students and promote equitable access to educational and professional opportunities.

Functions & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with existing cells and statutory bodies of HEIs to implement government schemes, including scholarships and fellowships, for SEDGs, ensuring their participation in orientation and bridge courses, earn-while-learn schemes, and outreach programs.
  • Provide socio-economic, academic, and psychological support to SEDG students through counseling, mentoring, and sensitizing faculty, staff, and students about the issues affecting SEDGs, ensuring their inclusion in all aspects of HEIs.
  • Generate funds from CSR and alumni to offer more financial assistance and scholarships to SEDGs, while collaborating with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to raise awareness about inclusive higher education policies.
  • Serve as a ‘Single Window’ for SEDG students’ grievances, basic needs, welfare measures, and scholarships, and disseminate guidelines and safety measures through HEI portals to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Establish a team of counselors and faculty members to support SEDG students emotionally and socially, focusing on their overall personality and skill development to enhance employability and participation in various activities.
  • Monitor the progress of schemes for SEDGs, assess their needs, and make recommendations to HEI authorities, ensuring the swift resolution of grievances and raising awareness about the facilities and welfare schemes available.
