Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Vardhaman’s Academic Engine of Innovation.

The Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Vardhaman College of Engineering serves as the institutional hub for academic innovation, community engagement, research translation, and startup incubation. Strategically designed to integrate innovation into education and practice, CIE fosters a culture where ideas evolve into impactful solutions for society and industry.

Housed in one of the most advanced and architecturally distinctive glass infrastructure blocks of the campus, CIE symbolizes transparency, collaboration, and forward-thinking education. The facility brings together multidisciplinary innovation, research, incubation, and entrepreneurship activities under one dynamic ecosystem.

The CIE Ecosystem

CIE operates through five integrated and mutually reinforcing wings:

Each wing plays a strategic role in strengthening the innovation lifecycle — from academic design thinking and community problem identification to research output, product realization, and startup incubation.

Vision

To be a catalyst in nurturing innovative and entrepreneurial leaders who contribute to addressing societal needs and building a progressive, inclusive, and responsible nation through education and practice.

Mission

Collaborations & Partnerships

Innovation thrives through collaboration between academia, industry, government, and communities. The Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Vardhaman College of Engineering builds this ecosystem through partnerships that support community-driven innovation, research, startup incubation, and product development

The collaborative ecosystem of CIE supports various initiatives including EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service), startup incubation, product development, innovation challenges, mentoring programs, and entrepreneurship development activities. By connecting academic learning with community engagement and industry practices, these partnerships help create a dynamic environment where innovation can flourish and ideas can evolve into impactful products and entrepreneurial ventures.

Community Partners

Community partnerships form a core component of the Community Innovation & Transformation (CIT) initiative at Vardhaman College of Engineering. These organizations help identify real-world societal challenges and work closely with students to ensure that engineering solutions developed through the EPICS academic framework are relevant, practical, and beneficial to communities. Through field engagement, problem identification, and collaborative solution development, these partners enable students to understand grassroots challenges and design technology-based interventions that contribute to sustainable development.

Key community partners include:

Palle Srujana

An organization dedicated to promoting grassroots innovations and supporting rural innovators across India.

Bala Vikasa

A development organization working with communities on capacity building, sustainable livelihoods, and social empowerment initiatives.

Youngistaan

A youth-driven organization focused on education, leadership development, and community engagement programs.

YouthAid

An organization supporting youth initiatives and social innovation projects addressing societal challenges.

UBA

A flagship initiative of the Government of India that connects higher educational institutions with rural communities to address local development challenges through technological interventions.

Innovation & Startup Ecosystem Partners

CIE collaborates with several national and regional organizations that support innovation, entrepreneurship development, startup incubation, and technology commercialization. These partnerships provide students with opportunities to participate in innovation challenges, startup mentorship programs, and entrepreneurial development initiatives.

The Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) collaborates with several organizations to strengthen innovation and entrepreneurship activities. Key partners include the Wadhwani Foundation and NASSCOM Foundation, which support entrepreneurship education and technology-driven innovation initiatives. The center also engages with Telangana State Innovation Cell (TSIC), T-Hub, TiE Global, and the Osmania Technology Business Incubator (OTBI) to provide mentorship, startup incubation, and participation in innovation programs. Additional collaborations with the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, India Drone Academy, Chitkara University, and SR University further support research, emerging technology training, and innovation-driven learning.

Institutional Innovation Network

CIE is also connected with several national innovation initiatives and institutional platforms that strengthen the culture of innovation and entrepreneurship on campus. These initiatives provide opportunities for students and faculty to participate in innovation competitions, startup development programs, and research-driven product development activities. These include:

Academic & Innovation Ecosystem Collaborations

The Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship maintains collaborations with leading academic institutions and innovation organizations to strengthen its educational and research initiatives. These partnerships enable the institution to adopt global best practices in innovation education and entrepreneurship development.

Purdue University

The EPICS framework implemented at Vardhaman College of Engineering is inspired by the globally recognized EPICS program developed at Purdue University, USA. This academic collaboration played a significant role in introducing community-driven engineering education at the institution. Through this association, faculty members received training in the EPICS methodology, which emphasizes design thinking, interdisciplinary teamwork, and real-world problem solving. The collaboration helped integrate EPICS into the academic curriculum and laid the foundation for the Community Innovation & Transformation (CIT) initiative.

Academic Framework

The Community Innovation & Transformation (CIT) wing of the Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) at Vardhaman College of Engineering is driven by the EPICS (Engineering Projects in Community Service) program, which embeds innovation into the academic curriculum. Implemented as a credit-based progression across the first four semesters (1 credit per semester), EPICS ensures that students engage in real-world problem solving, design thinking, prototyping, and entrepreneurial exploration from the early stages of their engineering journey.

Established in 2014 and formalized in 2018 through collaboration with Purdue University, EPICS has evolved into a structured innovation framework under the R25 curriculum, progressing through CCDT, Product Design & Development, Technology Entrepreneurship, and Community-Driven Product Evaluation, enabling students to transform ideas into validated solutions.

Aligned with NEP 2020, SDGs, and Outcome-Based Education, CIT fosters socially responsible innovators and transforms learning into experiential, impact-driven outcomes.

Institutional Impact

Over the years, CIE has strengthened the institution’s innovation culture through:

CIE stands as a strategic pillar of Vardhaman’s academic and entrepreneurial transformation — driving innovation with purpose and impact.
